Greased Melon Relay Race
Sponsored by the Sunland-Tujunga-Shadow Hills Rotary Club

Have you ever tried to hold on to a greasy melon while you are running across the lawn?

This is your opportunity to check out your skills!

Bring your partner and check in at the Rotary Club booth (across from the Melon Shed) between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Saturday or Sunday. Races will begin at 4 p.m. and will be divided up by age group.

One of the team will run with the melon to the turning point and hand off the melon to the waiting partner, who will then run back to the starting/finish line.

If you drop the melon you are disqualified.

Don't want to compete? Come watch and cheer on your favorites!!

Here are the winners of the 2009 Greased Melon Relay Race

Wearable Art Contest

WATERMELON WILL BE “IN FASHION” THIS YEAR!

littlegirleatingmelonWinner! 2009 Festival -- But who is she?

Is it Emma? Maybe it's Bridget? Susanna? Can some Mom Claim her? Help! Just contact us at the Lions Den booth. Thanks.

If you wear something with a watermelon design or theme to the Watermelon Festival, you may encounter one of the “mystery fashion experts” who will enroll you in the Wearable Art Contest.

We haven’t learned all the details yet, but we hear hints that there will be photos taken and displayed – and something has been said that the folks at the Festival may have a chance to vote on their favorites. And of course, if there is voting, then there may be a prize or two!

So, if you like to sew or appliqué or embroider, make jewelry, decorate hats, fix up your flip-flops or bag or parasol, paint melons on your clothes, or create any other item you can wear, now is the time to start having fun making something special for the Festival!

(We’ve heard you can even wear store-bought clothes or accessories!)
