FREE WATERMELON !

The Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club’s 44th Annual Watermelon Festival will be back home again in Sunland Park on August 12, 13, and 14. Mark your calendar so you can come and enjoy the free live entertainment, the free slices of ice-cold watermelon, the new Festival Marketplace and the Food Court while the kids enjoy the carnival rides and cotton candy. The Festival will be open on Friday from 4 to 10:30 pm; Saturday and Sunday noon to 10:30.

The Festival Queen will be crowned on Friday evening about 8:00 p.m. On Sunday night the popular music group Clean Slate will be on-stage, and Entertainment Chairman Lion John Severino is planning to have blues and country music Friday and Saturday nights. Local dance and music groups will perform and martial arts will be demonstrated throughout the day.

A Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest and a Watermelon Eating Contest will be two new additions to the Festival. For dates and times check the Festival website –www.lionswatermelonfestival.com. The website will keep you updated as the entertainment is scheduled and new events are added. Prize drawings will be held at 9 p.m. every night.

The Food Court will feature a variety of ethnic foods, pizza and corn booths, and outstanding barbecued tri-tips and chicken dinners will be featured.

Local clubs are invited to have a booth in the Food Court or the Festival Marketplace, to enter a queen candidate in the contest, or sell tickets to raise funds for their own clubs. Letters are going out to local groups with detailed information.

If you have any questions, please contact Festival Director Marynance Schellenbach at 818-353-4554 or lionswatermelon@yahoo.com.
