Watermelon Festival Court 2005
Queen Briana Heredia
Sponsored by Blue Shadows Equestrian Drill Te am
Queen Briana lives with her mother and father in Pacoima. She was enrolled in the Honors Program at Walter Reed Middle School where she excelled in Math and Science. After a year at Pacoima Middle School, she will be returning to Walter Reed in the Fall.
Briana was active in the Navy's Sea Cadet Program where she learned respect and responsibility. She learned to sail and practiced with trained Marines. In February of 2005 she joined the Blue Shadows Equestrian Drill Team and was placed in the beginners group to learn how to ride a horse. She graduated in only four weeks, entered her first equitation competition after she had been riding only three months, and won third place. When asked what she enjoys doing, she answered "Riding horses!", taking care of horses, learning more about horses. It sounds like a real love affair! Her biggest dream is to own her own horse. Looking to the future, Briana would like to become an excellent veterinarian.
Given the opportunity to sell raffle tickets for the Watermelon Festival to raise money for the Blue Shadows, she came out right on top in competition with other members of the Drill Team.
2005 Junior Watermelon Festival Queen
Junior Queen Keanna Arnason
Thirteen year old Keanna loves to sing and has been taking voice lessons since she was nine! She has worked professionally and was a Southern California semi-finalist in Disney's Star Kids Search. She may be heard as a soloist on the "Rocket Babies" CD. She belongs to the Theatrical Club "Steppin' Out", she is studying drums and guitar, and would like to be a rock star, a song writer, and have her own band. The oldest of four children, she lives in Tujunga with her mom Lorri, 2 brothers and a sister. She is an honors student at Mt. Gleason Middle School.
Keanna opened the 2004 Watermelon Festival singing the National Anthem, and will do so again for the 2005 ceremony before Councilwomam Wendy Greuel crowns the Queens and the Festival Court.
Keanna opened a trust fund to benefit a friend with cancer whose family lacks health insurance; the money from the tickets sold on her behalf went into that fund.
